2026 watchlog

in the approximate order of which i watched them.
the substance (2024)
8/10
horror, thriller, science fiction
i found myself really liking this movie. it was incredibly nasty and gory and wild, and at the same time, i feel like it fumbled in a lot of areas. i think it executed the themes well, but by god it over-stayed its welcome. i checked the run-time when i paused it to let a friend go run to the bathroom and i was shocked when there was still 50 minutes left, especially when it felt like we were at a very big climactic moment. there were a lot of lingering shots i know were for impact but definitely could have been cut or shortened in some way. i say that but also the final 10 minutes of this movie was actually impecable and all movies need to take note. all in all... i enjoyed this movie. i think every man in hollywood should die.
a minecraft movie (2025)

WHY DID I AGREE TO WATCH THIS I'M NOT A 12 YEAR OLD BOY.
project hail mary (2026)
9/10
science fiction
i'm glad ryan gosling is getting type cast as a loserly pretty boy more and more these days. it fits him. anyways i adored this movie so much i went back and read the book for it. i'll leave the discussion of that over on my book page, but as far as the movie goes, i think this story is told impressively well! the cgi is great, the sound design is great, the lil rocky puppet is adorable in all its weirdness. this movie made me tear up a little. the strength of the human spirit got to me okay
hoppers (2026)
7/10
science fiction, comedy, animation
i'll be honest, i only watched this to understand the sheer amount of porn i've seen of mabel and jerry. strange that mabel isn't even human for half of this movies runtime and theres still been such an explosion, but people are relentless in their pursuit of fucking that old man. anyway, this movie got some genuine laughs and even a moment of shock out of me. i ended up getting really into it- it's cute and funny. it's a disney movie, bro, like ofc it'll hit all the boxes
son of batman (2014)
6/10
animation, action
let's make one thing clear in this household/website damian is the best robin because he is an irritating stuck-up child. okay? thank you. that being said, i think he shines best when you can see who he actually is underneath all that trauma and the mask he wears. does this movie do that? no. i don't think an animated dc movie ever could, but i still like him in this movie and i like it in general. it was ffffffffffine. i thought this was gonna be kid-friendly, i wasn't aware they were just gonna let batman be suckin n fuckin every other scene. dick, too. the whole family suckin n fuckin.
